Triple success for Yastrebfilm in Canada
Two documentaries, directed by Sergey Yastrzhembskiy, about endangered peoples of Africa and the extermination of African elephants, won the main prizes at the international film festival in Canada.
Film Festival "Vues du Monde", which was held for the first time this year, ended in Montreal on Sunday. The festival organizers, led by renowned Canadian director and producer Michel Zgarka, tried to find for it a special niche in the rich international festival life. Therefore, they focused on humanism and music in the film industry, as well as on protection of the rights of indigenous, or as they are often called "primitive" peoples.
The festival search committee chose 33 of 750 submitted feature films, documentaries, short films and scripts.
The festival jury, chaired by famous French writer and presenter François de Closets, named winners in 16 categories.
The documentary "Africa: Blood and Beauty", directed by Sergey Yastrzhembsky, was awarded “Best documentary" prize.
The triumph of the ceremony was the closing film of the festival – "Ivory. A Crime Story", released in 2016. For this film the Russian film director got two awards: “Best director” and Special Prize of the jury “For humanism in cinema art”.
