Ivory. A Crime Story won the Golden Eagle Award

On January 27 the 15th annual awards ceremony of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Russia for achievements in Russian film industry took place at the studio "Mosfilm".

Full-length documentary film-investigation by director Sergey Yastrzhembsky won the “Golden Eagle” award for Best Documentary. The film was the result of three years’ work of the production studio “Yastrebfilm”.

The motion picture is a journalistic investigation of the causes of the unprecedented extermination of African elephants that spanned all over Africa a few years ago.

"265 shooting days, 9 months of editing, dozens of people from more than 20 countries around the world - this is the price of the “Eagle”, - said Sergey Yastrzhembsky, receiving the award. - ... I thank the Academy for their appreciation. It is the first miracle, and the second miracle happened on New Year eve when China, the main consumer of illegal ivory, announced its complete ban on ivory from the end of December 2017. And the third miracle is standing next to me. Without my wife Nastya I would have never started working in film industry, and instead, I would ride a car with a flashing light”, - summed up the filming director.

The Russian premiere of the film took place on June 28, 2016 during the 38th Moscow International Film Festival.

Russian TV presenter and sports commentator Dmitry Gubernev handed the prize.

By the way, it is the second “Golden Eagle” in the collection of Sergey Yastrzhembsky. He was awarded the first one for the documentary “Africa. Blood and Beauty” in 2012.
